Let's go back to the Origin... GUNDAM
- It's the RX-78-2 Gundam. The thing that started it all.
- Progress on Sept 23, 2001
- I want to change the style of the HUGC Gundam. After getting enough inspiration, I started working.
- The first thing I did was to scratch build the exhaust fins of the chest. They are built with styrene sheets of assorted thickness. It took a few hours (probably more than 6 hours) from start to finish.
- An alternative is to use the parts from FG Gundam instead, as demonstrated by Miyuki UEHARA (p.18-21 [1]). However, as this has already be done, I think building my original parts would be a better idea.
- The finished part is then glued to the heat exhaust part that comes with the kit.

Major rework of the lower leg
- Here's a side by side comparison of the modified and (not-too) original parts.
- The original thighs look too short. Therefore they have been lengthened by 2.2mm.
- The shape of the knee armor is changed, I've sanded to make it smaller. Also, the heat exhaust is made larger.
- I'm inserting an extra ball joint on the ankle, making the ankle triple jointed. Now it can make some really stunning poses!
- The length of the lower leg is longer because of the ball joint, therefore the lower leg armor is also extended to cover it up. Now it is much taller than before.
- Now that I have nearly finished one leg, I have to work on the other leg. I wonder if I still remember how I should do it? They should look the same! I'm in trouble... ~_~'
- I'm very sure of one thing though. I sure have improved a lot.

- The Gundam is modified largely based on Kondo's designs, plus some of my own personal touch, so it is Kondo-like, but not so Kondo-ish actually.
- Notice the change of shape of the crotch armor.
- This is the first time you can see my scratch built backpack. Again, built largely according to Kondo's design. The whole thing is built with plastic plates and tubes, without any use of putty.
- Notice the subtile changes in the shape of the head, front and rear skirt armor, shoulder armor, knee armor, and shape of the feet. The shape of the whole leg has been streamlined and got rid of most of its Kotoki elements.
